This story will look “behind the curtain” a little, focusing on Pooka’s work. We’ll meet some other imps, see what Pooka’s job is supposed to entail, and maybe learn a little something about Limbo in the process. While these strips won’t push the main story forward, events that take place during these next few months may well have an impact on how the Boy’s journey progresses.

The art for these comics will be provided by Shannon Saar, who makes the webcomic Wighthouse. She also occasionally posts art up on her Tumblr blog (or tumblog). Oh, and she’s brilliant. So that’s nice.

The new comics will debut in January. Until then, enjoy your new year celebrations!

Yes, we know. It’s a pain. It’s webcomic death. It’s an almost guaranteed way of ensuring no bugger ever wants to read the comic ever again. But, y’know, we care about this comic. We care about the story and the characters, and ultimately we would rather do this story justice than just try to crap out two strips a week of a quality that neither of us would be happy with.

You’ll notice there are no ads on Deadlong. None. Never have been. That’s because we aren’t doing this for the money. We’re doing it because we’re more concerned with the yarn we’re spinning. Hopefully you’ve been enjoying it too. Enough to rejoin us in June, at least.

Fun fact: Johnathon and I first met when we locked horns on the Penny Arcade Forum, and he basically dismissed me as a wretched example of humanity! Now we’re firm friends. If it can happen to us, it can happen to anyone. Expect Obama and Romney to go bowling before Christmas.

We’re hoping to have a few other guest contributions before we pick up with Chapter Two next month, so hold on t’yer butts.

Deadlong’s going to be taking a little break for a couple of weeks, after which we’ll jump back in for Chapter Two. Just in time for Christmas. How nice. Until then, why not read Kris Straub’s Broodhollow? It might actually be the best thing on the internet right now.
